Do this One Step to Feel Fantastic!

It’s getting close to the end of the year, and I know some of you are already thinking about your New Year’s Resolutions. Maybe you’re planning to slam all those healthy changes you’ve been putting off into place on the first day of 2014!

It’s a common impulse. “I’m going to go to the gym, eat better, quit smoking, and do yoga every day!” We want to whip ourselves into shape, especially after packing on a few extra pounds from all those holiday treats. We want to see results! Fast!

When I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in my late twenties, I knew I needed a huge lifestyle change. I was in rough shape! I was overweight, tired all the time and plagued with ‘fresh fruit syndrome’. What’s that, you may be wondering? Fresh fruit syndrome is allergies to certain fresh foods. Believe it or not, I was actually allergic to carrots and celery, as well as many more fruits and vegetables!

It took years, but I got there in the end. I conquered my food allergies, lost the weight, avoided diabetes and have even grown to love physical exercise!

So how did I do it?

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Drastic, sudden, sweeping lifestyle changes are not the answer. Maybe you can keep it up for a couple weeks, a couple months, or until you can fit back into your favourite jeans, but then most people slip back into the same old habits. It’s just too much, too soon.

We turn to old habits for comfort, like a comfy sweater, because the changes are often too difficult to maintain. It leaves us feeling guilty, frustrated and angry when we fall off just a bit. I remember how unhappy I got every time I missed a gym session back when I was trying to lose weight. I felt so guilty I had to stop going all together to avoid the depression it was causing me.

If I have one piece of advice to give that is guaranteed to help ease you into seeing the results you desire last a lifetime, it’s this:

Keep it simple by ‘ADDING IN’

It is not about eliminating anything from your life to reach your goals, such as certain food like most diets have you do. It’s about adding something in that will counterbalance the negative impact your bad habit is having.

If you like watching television at night, enjoy it, but add in some stretching or light breathing exercises while watching. If you know you need to exercise more, don’t go for the gym membership right away, add in a light 15 minute walk every few days until your power builds up.

What one area of your life right now would you like to see the biggest improvement?

Is it your health, finances, relationships, etc?

Now ask yourself, What is one thing I can bring in to my life right now that represents an act of self care in this area?  By adding in one small action, you move closer into alignment with your self healing powers.

It could be as easy as adding in a handful of hemp seeds to your Tim Hortons bagel at the drive thru on your way to work, or taking 30 seconds to breathe deeply while feeling stressed the next time you are stuck in traffic.

All it take is the addition of one small ‘Act of LOVE’ to start a very powerful chain reaction that activates your self healing power and aligns to achieving your ultimate goals with ease.  YES, it all begins with adding in one small ‘Act of LOVE’ at a time!

“But Adam, I want to change a LOT of things and I want results now!”

You can! You can have it all. “How is that possible if you’re not eliminating the bad?

That one small ‘Act of LOVE’ you just added in begins to feel “normal” quicker than you’d think. Before you know it, it becomes a new habit that pushes out bad habits without you needing to struggle to eliminate them. The bad starts to disappear on it’s own the more you add in the good through small ‘Acts of LOVE’.

The more ‘Acts of LOVE’ you bring in to your daily routine without struggling against the bad, the healthier you will become. Within a very short period of time (for some it is within days) you become more MINDFUL of how your daily actions make you FEEL. This MINDFULNESS opens the door for what I call ‘ease of change‘.

It is at this point your negatives begin to disappear on their own without the feelings of guilt, frustration or anger. Until this point arrives, keep adding in small ‘Acts of LOVE’ over and over again, all day, every day, allowing your healing power to grow.

Where do I begin, Adam?

Pick ONE area of your life, RIGHT NOW, where you would like to see the biggest improvement. Don’t wait until tomorrow or make an excuse as to why you can’t do this right now. Take 30 seconds, close your eyes if you need to…..go.

Maybe its your energy levels you want enhanced. Perhaps there is someone at work you do not get along with. Possibly it’s your finances or a lack of savings. No matter what it is, there is a way to bring in a small ‘Act of LOVE’ to move you toward your desired goal.  Add one tablespoon of hemp seeds to your next meal for more energy = ‘Act of LOVE’.  Sit with your thoughts of this person at work you do not get along with and hug them with kindness = ‘Act of LOVE’. Put $1 into a new savings account = ‘Act of LOVE’.

Not matter what you choose, you have the power to take your life to a new level and it starts with the next small ‘Act of LOVE’  you add in.

Remember, it is not about elimination. It’s about bringing in small ‘Acts of LOVE’ as often as you can as you FEEL your self healing powers grow. Do this for the next 7 days and let me know what you notice via my Power of Food Facebook Page or in the comments below. I would LOVE to hear from you.

The trick is to go easy on yourself and know that you are LOVED. One small ‘Act of LOVE’ at a time and you WILL get there. How do I know? Because I’m right here with you and I LOVE YOU!

PS. I am happy to let you know I will be releasing the pre-launch of my Breakfast Reboot – 14 Day Breakfast Plan on Friday of THIS WEEK. Talk about a powerful ‘Act of LOVE’ for yourself.

Many of you let me know “YES, I WANT IN” and will be getting the pre-launch invite via email in the coming days. If you did not make it in for the pre-launch, it’s all good. I will official open the Breakfast Reboot – 14 Day Breakfast Plan on Tue, Nov 26th at 8:00am PST. Oh Yeah!
