Just Do It Hemp Milk

Looking for an alternative to cow’s milk? Have you ever thought about hemp milk? The best part is, you can make it right at home. One of my favourite things about making hemp milk is that it’s so simple! Just two ingredients and its done in under one minute. This simple recipe should be in everyone’s family cookbook.

I use hemp milk as the base of most of my smoothies, as a cream for soups, for dips and spreads as well as any other recipe that calls for a creamy texture, like my Quinoa Risotto found in The Power of Food cookbook!

Hemp Milk F.A.Q.s

  • Why do my hemp seeds need to go in the refrigerator?
    • They’re a living food, chock full of omega-3 fats.
    • Hemp milk keeps for 2-3 days in the fridge.
  • Do I need to strain out the pulp? How do I do that?
    • Not unless you want to. I like to drink up all that goodness.
    • Strain it with a nut bag or cheesecloth.
  • My kids don’t like it. How am I going to sell them on it?
    • Make it kid-friendly by adding a little sweetener, figs, cinnamon or vanilla powder.
  • Aren’t hemp seeds expensive?
    • You can make a litre of hemp milk for about $1-2 dollars. You won’t find dairy milk any cheaper than that.
  • What can I drink it with?
    • Its frothiness makes it a natural choice for coffee and cappuccino.  
    • Hemp milk is a great smoothie starter.
    • Use it for pancakes, baked goods, oatmeal and cereal, and any other recipes that call for milk or water.  

JUST DO IT HEMP MILK

Time: 5 mins.

Serves 4 (1 litre)

INGREDIENTS & DIRECTIONS 

  • 1 cup (250 mL) hemp seeds
  • 3 cups (750 mL) water
  • Place the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Store in an airtight glass jar in the refrigerator and consume within 48 hours.

***Add in a sweetener of choice (dates, figs, coconut sugar), cinnamon, vanilla or any other ingredient you wish to create the hemp milk you and your family will enjoy consuming everyday – OH YEAH!
