Homemade Tortilla Chips

What’s better than making your own food at home at a fraction of the cost of store bought items. A few weeks ago, my daughter Juliette and I were playing around in our kitchen, when we accidentally turned a pizza crust we were making into our very own scrumptious garlic tortilla chips.

How excited were we when we dipped these delicious chips into some hummus only to find they tasted better than our store bought chips. Nothing puts a wider smile on my face than when my kids eat up something healthy we made from scratch.

The LOVE that goes into preparing your own food has a ripple affect far reaching beyond just your tastebuds. I know when I play in my kitchen, especially if my family is involved, the nutrients find their way deeper into my cell structure and vibrate nourishment throughout my mind and body. Homemade Garlic Tortilla Chips

Serves: 40 chips
 
Ingredients
  • 2 cups gluten free baking flour
  • 1 cup Ra Energy or sesame seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup room temp water
  • ⅓ cup extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
  1. In a food processor fitted with a batter blade, blend together the flour, Ra Energy or sesame seeds, sea salt, garlic, nutritional yeast and the baking powder.
  2. While still blending, add in the water and olive oil until consistent dough is formed. You will need to scrap down the sides a few times.
  3. Place the batter into a large bowl.
  4. Using a cutting board coated with flour, portion out individual palm sized balls and roll flat with a rolling pin to create approx 7’ round tortillas.
  5. Once flat, fry your tortilla in a frying pan over medium heat for 1 minute on each side.
  6. Let each tortilla cool down and then cut into triangle pieces to create your tortilla chips. You can also leave your tortilla’s whole and use as mini pizza crusts or wraps for a fantastic lunch.
