It never ceases to amaze me how much life giving power comes from our organic plant-based foods. Garlic is no exception; as far back as ancient Egypt, garlic was revered for it’s medicinal properties and to this day it is still regarded as one of the most valuable superfoods around.
I am a huge fan of garlic for two reasons; it has amazing health benefits plus it packs a punch when it comes to adding flavour to any meal. Sure, garlic helps keep the vampires away but did you know that it has other super powers? This all is thanks to its high levels of vitamins and minerals. Here’s why you should be eating more garlic.
Garlic can help:
- Reduce Blood Pressure
- Lower Cholesterol
- Prevent the Common Cold
- Improve Circulation
- Fight Inflammation (throughout the body)
- Fight Certain Types of Cancer
Garlic is full of:
- Vitamin B-6
- Vitamin C
- Iron
- Calcium
- Selenium
- Manganese
- Zinc
Like I said above, not only are the health benefits phenomenal but garlic is a great way to add flavour to your meals. I love adding it to my homemade soups, salad dressings and sauces.
Here is my recipe for Garlic Avocado Dip. It’s easy to make and is brimming with all the great vitamins and minerals that fresh organic garlic has to offer.
Garlic Avocado Dip
- 2 ripe avocados
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
- Juice from one lime
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
Directions:
Put all the ingredients into food processor and blend until smooth. Store any leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. You can serve it with chopped vegetables, your favourite crackers or even as a base for some amazing homemade pizza.
