3 Essential Kitchen Appliances for Healthy Living

The Power of Food kitchen is a bit different than your standard kitchen from whence I grew up. While I do tend to cook things from time to time, the emphasis is to prepare my food as close to its whole state as possible and thus keeping all the nutrients and digestive enzymes intact. Here are a few devices that will aid you in having more health through the food you eat.

1. Food Dehydrator

Adding heat to food destroys the enzymes that are vital to cell reproduction and repair. Dehydrating your food, rather than baking (and especially microwaving – ugh!) is a fantastic way to preserve the vital nutrients and enzymes that give us life. There are many recipes on the recipe page on the Power of Food website that require a food dehydrator. Probably the most popular is Kale Chips, a great snack that is packed full of nutrition. The best dehydrator for your money is the Excalibur 9 tray Dehydrator.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

2. Blender

The most important aspect of nutrition is your body’s ability to digest food. You can be eating the world’s most powerful superfoods, but if your digestive system does not break it down, it will just go right out during your morning constitutional. By breaking down all the foods before it even enters your mouth, your digestive system spends more energy in absorbing the nutrients instead of trying to break them down.

The best blender by far is the Vitamix. I can’t say enough about this blender.  It will do everything that you want it to and then some!  If you can afford it, you will get an instant return on your investment on ease of use and performance power.

Thank me later!

If the Vita-mix is understandably outside your budget, perhaps try the Magic Bullet. For the price it has a fantastic motor that holds up well and can grind pretty much anything. Not to mention it is small and portable, perfect for going on camping trips or shuttling to and from the office.

3. Grinder

Just as a blender is important for breaking down your food before it enters your mouth, so is a grinder. This is especially important for seeds – the main ones being flax seeds and unhulled sesame seeds. When the seeds are ground down beforehand, you are ensuring that the maximum amount of nutrients are absorbed into your bloodstream. If instead you rely on chewing your food, you will undoubtedly miss much more than the grinder, and won’t get as much bang for your buck.

My favorite is probably the Cuisinart Electric Spice-and-Nut Grinder for its’ durability and speed, but in reality any coffee grinder will do the job.

With a little bit of preparation and investment, you can make your kitchen work more easily in your favor, allowing more time to do the things you love.  Remember that the essence of my message is that things must be easy for you to develop healthy habits, and these kitchen gadgets will help you immensely on your journey.

  1. I’ve never tried a food dehydrator. But it’s interesting what you say about food dehydrators and how adding heat to food can destroy the very enzymes we need from the food. What do you think about juicing and blending food, does that also remove the vital enzymes and nutrients? I would guess that it would certainly lower them a bit, would it not?

    Hi
I’m trying to fight osteoporosis with a complete lifestyle / diet change instead of using medical drugs which scare the living death out of me.
I would welcome any recipes that relate to the building and strengthening of bones on your website.
